That’s what I’m going to tell you today. In fact, I’m going to give you the exact steps that you need to do. I’m going to try to keep this as short as possible. So we’re going to go ahead and get started right after I give you a really quick update.
Fluency Academy is available for intermediate adult students this fall. I have posted a sign up sheet, actually, it’s a waitlist. So I’ve posted the waitlist below. This one is quite different than the full version. It’s shorter for one. Um, but it still gives you the really important parts to help you reach your fluency goal. Also, if you have not already done so, join us on the Facebook group: the Living in English: 365 Facebook group. There, you can get yourself a conversation partner. Yes, it’s free. Just go ahead and sign up. The link is below.
All right. So last week I told you what the Clubhouse app is and just a little a bit about how you can actually download it and, um, the things you can do with it. So I don’t want to repeat that. If you missed last week’s episode, please go listen to episode 77. All right. So in general, it’s available for apple and Android now just download it. It’s called Clubhouse. Yes. One word. After you download it, you’re going to create your profile and choose topics that you like. After you’ve chosen topics, you will then be displayed or shown different rooms that you can enter. Wonderful. So you have that section finished what you need to do now.
Number one is make a goal for yourself. When you make a goal, I’m not saying, well, I want to speak English. Um, that’s not really a goal. What does that mean? So you need to be very specific. You can really only choose from speaking, listening, or vocabulary because this is an audio only app. Now you’re going to say, well, I want to improve my conversational speaking.

Wonderful. That’s a great goal. Maybe you want to practice the vocabulary words that you have learned from your classes or any other place that you are studying. That’s also fantastic. Since this is audio only, um, you are learning and listening to real authentic language. Like people speak. This is not the English that you learn in your courses or at the university. Okay. This is how people actually speak and thats why I think it’s very important for you to try your hardest in this app.
After you have made your goal, you need to decide when you’re going to use this app. There are people all over the world using this app. And so if there is a room that you like with a host that you really like, well, you need to make sure that. You are connecting to the app at the same time that the host is connecting and in the app talking ,okay. If you’re not, well, obviously. Yeah, it’s not going to be pre recorded. It’s live. So you need to make sure that you are available at that time. Yes. It doesn’t matter if this person is a native speaker or not. There are people all over the world who are using this app. You will not have a problem finding a room that you like that I am very sure of.
If you don’t see a room that you like, or it’s not quite what you want, create a room. That’s a really fun thing about this. If you don’t see what you like, create it. If you want to create a room for people in the podcast, uh, group, well, fantastic. You can create it and then you can go ahead and practice there.
Maybe it’s a study group. That’s another really big benefit of this app is that yeah, you can create something. You can create study groups. You can find teachers. English, teachers, for example, who are teaching British English or Australian English or, or, uh, Irish, English, whatever it is that you are trying to, to practice, you’ll find it there. So I think that’s really, um, a really good thing. And, and I’ll tell you a little bit more about the, um, benefits in a second.
So after you’ve done that, just listen to the room that you have chosen. Just listen to see if you like that person or the people. How they’re talking. How, um, what they’re talking about, just see and listen for a little bit. If you don’t like it, leave. But after you’ve done that for just a little bit, you can just start very slowly and gradually start talking.

You can start by introducing yourself. And the really brilliant thing is that you can prepare before you start talking; you can write down what you want to say. After some time, of course, this will be, like, taking too much of your time, so you will probably stop. But the very first time you can just write, okay “I want to introduce myself.” Check. I did that next time. “I want to speak a complete sentence or two complete sentences.” Check. “I want to ask a question.”
So, let me talk a little bit about the benefits before I do a review. I think there are a lot of benefits. Like I said, there are a lot of different rooms. You can do study groups, conversation groups, you can ask questions or ask for feedback. And because of that, there is a lot of variety. So there are a lot of different things that you can do and many different voices. Female, males, non-binary and you know, these people are, are from different parts of the world. Remember, there are more, non-native English speakers than there are native speakers of English. So it’s important to also listen to people who don’t speak like me, an American from the south. Even I have a distinct accent. Again, this is real English. It’s also specific to what you want to talk about. Which I mean, this, this, this can only help you. It’s not going to hurt you so long as you know, when to use these, the types of English that these people are using. And of course what the meaning is and how to do it, you should be.

All right to recap. Clubhouse is a free app available on apple and Android. After you have downloaded it and completed your profile and chosen topics, make a goal for yourself for your learning. Maybe it’s to speak for one entire minute.
That’s a fantastic goal. Well, decide when you want to do this. I want to join this room at 8:00 PM every day. That’s also a really good goal. After you do that, you can listen for a little bit in any of the rooms. And after you’ve listened for small amount of time, start talking, there are numerous benefits to this and all of them improve your English.
None of them hurt your English. What are you waiting for? Go ahead and download the Clubhouse app because this is how you learn English or learn a language on clubhouse.
Also disclaimer. I am not sponsored by Clubhouse. Okay. I am not sponsored by them. I’m just a teacher and I think it’s very helpful. And, um, I’m just suggesting it to you to help you with your English.
Tell me how clubhouse has helped your English.
Hey, listen, I’m going to post a donation link. If you would like to support me financially and donate a few dollars: $2 if you like tea. $3, if you like coffee. I like coffee. So all of you, coffee drinkers out there donate $3 to the podcast.
The app that I use is called Ko-Fi. K O dash F I (Ko-Fi) alright, thank you for your company. And I’m going to go ahead and say bye-bye for now. See you next time.
